Flashy Electric Vehicles give Glimpses of Future of Mobility at EV India 2021 | India Expo Mart

29th December, Greater Noida: Amid the surge in EV adoption in India, the International Electric Motor Vehicle show, “EV India 2021 Expo” was recently held at India Mart, Greater Noida. The show gave a platform to electric vehicle manufacturers to showcase their latest products, technology & equipment, smart & NextGen transport, electric passengers cars, scooter, motorcycle etc.

The expo was held during 24th to 26th December, 2021 and attracted a large number of electric vehicle enthusiasts.

During the show, Ten News team interacted with many EV exhibitors to understand their product portfolio and to get a bigger picture of EV market in India.

One of the exhibitors, Rajnish Kumar from GT Electric showed us the company’s flagship scooter, GT one plus model. He said the scooter has many features such as cruise control, reverse mode, central locking system with theft alarm, it also has dual disc break in front & rear, reverse parking mode and sporty & attractive headlights.

When asked about its price, he said it comes in two variants, lead acid battery variant costs around Rs. 60,000 & lithium-ion battery variant costs Rs. 80,000.

When asked about demand of E-vehicles in the market, Kumar said, “Post Covid the demand for electronic vehicles has increased because of the rising petrol prices, people now are shifting towards the E-vehicles. We have seen more enthusiasm in every group of people from kids, ladies to the senior citizens & so there is a huge demand for it.”

When asked about what else govt. can do to promote e-vehicles, he said, “Government is already doing their bit but what extra they can do is that they can reduce the GST on the liquid vehicles, the GST is above 28% which should be reduced to 5% & there should be uniform GST by state governments also.”

Presenting his attractive two-wheeler Scooty, Amresh Khar, the Co-founder of Mad about Wheels said, “This product has a different kind of IC engine, In IC engine you carry an engine, a battery & a power drape, it’s all in their seat. In this scooty, we have LED DRLS, three front light option, safety mirrors. The features of breaking, reversing are available at just one click. Lights, horns everything is same as any other product. The price begins from 65,000-67,000 and goes upto Rs. 86,000 in India.

Khar also presented company’s Electric Bicycle “EMotorad EMX”. Talking about the features of this cycle, Khar said, “It has grill suspension, lock & open facility. It has shimano gears which come with 7×3 combination of 21 gears.
Gears can be locked & set on your hand itself. Moreover, the seat is adjustable as per the size, it’s a very user-friendly product for anyone to ride. The cost of the product for EMX starts from Rs. 42,000.

On growth of EV market, Khar said that our country adopts things faster where there is economics. If I say my kilometres over kilometres from a petrol option is 4rs/km and it switches to 25-18 paisa/km, it’ll make a noise.
There is a reason for huge demand, so many are coming forward & buliding right products for India.

“I would say as the market will grow we will see a lot of ups & downs in the market. We’ll see lot of other products in the market having batter features & specifications. The actual intensity of EV will grow faster than impulsion,” he added.

Presenting his retro-styled scooter, General Manager of One Moto, said, “We have a a retro-style scooter called Electa, which has a top speed of 100/hr. It’s styled differently than others. The range of this scooter is 50 km per charge. There are three gears, in first gear it’s 56km/hr. In the second gear it’s 80 km/hr & in third gear it’s 99 km/hr.”

Showcasing the battery, he said, “You can charge it within the scooter or you can remove and charge as well, the battery weighs about 19-20 KG. The cost of the product is Rs. 1,99,000.”

Next, Executive of One Electric showcased the company’s flashy 125 CC high speed bike. He said, “This is completely developed & designed bike in India. Moreover we’ll be soon replacing this bike with 150 CC motorcycle so the top speed is 95 km/hr. The USP of this is, it’s all pure metal so the life of bike is atleast 5-10 years like other normal motorcycle. This bike costs Rs. 1,50,00.

When asked about the demand, he said, “We are witnessing a good demand, the price point is challenging henceforth subsidy is helping.”

On the Growth of EV in India, he said, “EV vehicles are facing challenges because of supply chain constrain & finance. Moreover, he said, there is a dearth of quality products; low cost, poor quality products aren’t giving a good image to EV in the market.”

When asked about the government support, he said, “We need finance, the end users should get the subsidy directly to their bank accounts and it should be verified if the companies are following the rule or not.”

Another EV company which grabbed eyeballs at EV Expo was Okaya which showcased 3 products in slow speed and high speed category.

Talking to Ten News, Associate VP of Okaya, Puran Singh Negi said that we are uniquely placed in designing, battery manufacturing & science. We have expertise of 31 years in battery manufacturing, 19 years of electronics & 40 years of micro mobility. He talked about his high speed category having a range of 200 KM in one charge, keeping the speed of 60-70 km.

He showed his slow speed category vehicle, Freedum, which has a top speed of 25 Km / hour.  With this product, you get a freedom from petrol, licence and registration, Negi said.

“In one charge, it can go up to 70 kms. The Price of Freedum is around Rs 69,999.”

On demand of EVs, he said, “EV is the present and it’s going to transform very fast. Range & speed was the only problem of EV & now we are giving the highest range of 200 KM in the High speed category.”

When asked about what else government can do to promote EVs, he said, “Government has made revision to the EV policy, I’m greatful to them for that. Government can’t do better than this for EV.”

Next, Ten News spoke to a representative of Tadpole, which converts normal cars into electric cars.

Briefing about the process of transmission, the representative of Tadpole said, “In the first step, the customer has to tell us about what the car is, it’s model & further details about it. Our team than analyses the structuring of the car & the location of batteries, motor etc. Further, our team decides all the specifications needed and than whatever we do is in a very engineered step by step way. After that, we tell the customer about how much time it’ll take and at its procedure.

We have started a green initiative where we take the engine out of the car, plant trees on the name of the client & the engine, and give the engine back to the client,” he added.

On commercials, he said, “A basic small car can take around 5 lakhs for conversion & as we scale up it could go up to 7-10 Lakhs. We provide a range of 80-100 km with the speed of 70-90 km/hr. For Rs. 10 lakh, we can provide a range of 200-250 Kms with a speed of 150 km/hour.
