Galgotias University organizes “National Nutrition Week” in district jail of Gautam Buddh Nagar

Legal Aid Clinic, School of Law, Galgotias University, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Gautam Buddh Nagar, under the guidance of Richa Upadhyay, Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, organized the “National Nutrition Week.” As part of this initiative, a program was held in the district jail of Gautam Buddh Nagar for female inmates and their children, all within the prison premises.

Students from the Law School and Nursing School of Galgotias University, along with their respective deans, Dr. Namita Singh Malik and Dr. S.P. Subashini, joined the event in the district jail. The program was conducted under the supervision of Richa Upadhyay, ADJ (F.T.S.) and Secretary, DLSA, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

Richa Upadhyay began the program with a brief ice-breaking session, where she engaged with all the female inmates, discussing their concerns and taking immediate steps to address them. She emphasized that if any of them face any issues, they should communicate them. She further stated that they understood the hardships in their lives but encouraged them to maintain discipline and peace.
She also advised the inmates to participate in extra-curricular activities organized in the district jail, such as sewing and parlour sessions.

Following this, Dr. Namita Malik introduced Galgotias University and explained the institution’s aim to teach vocational skills to children outside of textbooks.

The Nursing students and teachers of Galgotias University continued the program, focusing on boosting the morale of female inmates. Dr. Sonia Singh organized various small activities to improve the mental well-being of female inmates.

The Nursing students highlighted the importance of healthy eating habits through posters, along with the significance of consuming an adequate amount of nutritious food and water, especially for their children after mothers’ healthy meals.

They emphasized the need for quality sleep and how a nutritious diet contributes to better physical health in the end.

Towards the end of the program, Than Singh instructed female inmates on yoga exercises to improve their metabolism before and after meals. He taught them some yoga poses and raised awareness about the positive effects of meditation.

At the conclusion of the program, Galgotias University students distributed packets of fruits, beverages, biscuits, and other nutritious food to female inmates. Sanitary napkins, sponsored by Neen, were also provided. The importance of cleanliness in life was discussed in detail.

The program’s finale showcased the remarkable talents of the inmates. The sculptures crafted by the artistic inmates were truly remarkable. In a colorful musical event, the inmates sang devotional songs for Lord Shri Krishna’s birthday during Janmashtami. The audience applauded them enthusiastically, and tears welled up in their eyes as they listened to the soulful renditions.
