New Delhi (India), April 13, 2023: Asad Ahmed, the son of notorious gangster and politician Atiq Ahmed, and his aide Ghulam were killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday in Jhansi.

The duo was wanted in connection with the murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 murder case of BSP MLA Raju Pal, and his two police security guards.

The encounter took place just hours after Atiq Ahmed and his brother, Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, were produced before a court in Prayagraj.

Reacting to the news of the encounter, Umesh Pal’s mother, Shanti Devi, thanked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for “serving justice” and expressed faith in him to deliver justice in the future as well. UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also congratulated the UP STF for bringing the alleged killers to justice.

Last month, Atiq Ahmed and two others were convicted in connection with the 2007 kidnapping case of Umesh Pal. Seven others were acquitted, including Atiq’s brother Ashraf.

The court held Atiq, Dinesh Pasi, and Khan Shaukat Haneef guilty. The murder of Umesh Pal and his security guards on February 24 of this year sent shockwaves across the state.
