New Delhi, 16th July 2023: On Saturday Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani met with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to discuss the transfer of the 1,600 MW Ultra Super Critical Godda Power Plant in Jharkhand to Bangladesh.

Gautam Adani said in a tweet, “Honoured to have met Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on full load commencement and handover of the 1600 MW Ultra Super Critical Godda Power Plant. I salute the dedicated teams from India and Bangladesh who braved Covid to commission the plant in record time of three-and-a-half years.”

The power plant is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Group and is located in the Godda district of Jharkhand. On April 6, 2023, the first unit of the 1,600 MW Ultra Super Critical Godda Power Plant in Jharkhand began commercial operations. On June 26, the second unit arrived.

APJL will supply 1,496 MW from the Godda USCTPP under a 25-year PPA with the Bangladesh Power Development Board, using a 400 kV specialised transmission line connected to the Bangladesh grid, the company stated in a statement.

Adani Power announced in June that its Godda Plant was fully operational.

On June 26, the second unit of Jharkhand’s 1,600 MW Ultra Super Critical Godda Power Plant was successfully commissioned. The reliability run rest, which included commercial operating tests, was concluded on June 25 in the presence of BPDB and PGCB authorities.

The first unit of the power plant, with a capacity of 800 MW, reached COD in April of this year. The second unit has the same capacity as the first, and the plant can now generate 1,600 MW of power with both units running.

The electricity supply from the Godda USCTPP to Bangladesh’s grid will improve the country’s energy security. The facility is expected to generate 7,200 million units of power per year, helping to meet Bangladesh’s expanding electrical demand.
