Greater Noida :  In a bid to contain the surge in Covid cases, India’s special four-day vaccination programme “Tika Utsav” kicked off across the country. Ahead of the Tika Utsav, the Gautam Buddh Nagar district received a fresh consignment of Covishield vaccine on Saturday evening. The consignment has a stock of 80 thousand doses, out of which 20 thousand might be given to Ghaziabad.

On Saturday, the district was left with only a few thousand doses of vaccine which put the whole “Tika Utsav” under question, but since the district has now received fresh doses, the district will carry out the campaign as planned. These fresh vaccines would be administered at 95 centres in Noida on Sunday, 40 of which would be government facilities.

District magistrate Suhas LY said, “As scheduled, we have received the doses. The district now has adequate stock for vaccination drives. These doses will not only make the four-day special vaccination festival (vishesh tika utsav), from April 11, successful but also ensure adequate inoculation at all centres at least for a week”.

“The district has a target of inoculating 1.62 lakh people in April, but our progress so far is much ahead. In only 10 days of this month, we have vaccinated as many as 73,582 persons, which is 45.42% of the target set for the whole month,” he added further.

On Saturday, state medical education minister Suresh Kumar Khanna visited the district’s integrated Covid-19 control room in Sector 59 and expressed satisfaction with the systematic approach and follow-up methods of staff there.
