GHAZIABAD: A 42-year-old property dealer has been booked for allegedly trying to kill the 40-year-old wife of a hawker, in the Loni area, before shooting himself on Friday night.

The accused, identified as Raj Kumar, is recuperating at GTB Hospital where the injured woman, Suman, has also been admitted for treatment.

Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s husband, Lala Ram (45), an FIR has been lodged against Raj Kumar in the Loni police station. The accused, a resident of Behta Hajipur, has been charged under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 309 (attempted suicide) of the IPC.

Police said the alleged murder attempt took place in the Mustafabad area of Loni around 10.30pm when Raj Kumar visiting the victim’s family. Kumar has been an acquaintance of the woman’s family for the last seven years, and had earlier also rented out one of his properties in Loni to them. “Lala Ram said in his complaint that Raj Kumar opened fire on his wife inside the house after a quarrel broke out between them. He then rushed out and pointed his gun at his own temple and fired. He is in a critical condition in the hospital,” said Raj Kumar Yadav, SHO, Loni police station.

Suman has sustained a gunshot injury to her chest.
