Shot at, victim panics and crushes robber under car in #Delhi

NEW DELHI: A few minutes after they robbed two businessmen, four bikers ran into them at a traffic signal. Afraid that they were being trailed, they opened fire. In the ensuing panic, one of them lost control of the car`s steering and ran over one of the bikes, killing one of his assailants on the spot while injuring the other grievously.

The bizarre incident took place in northwest Delhi`s Ashok Vihar between 11.45pm and 12.15am on Friday night.

The dead man has been identified as Shahzad (34). Arshad (24) is badly injured. Both are from Ghaziabad.

Shahzad was a listed bad character and was wanted for over 35 cases of snatching and robbery. Two businessmen (names withheld) had met over dinner at Invitation restaurant near Satyawati College. They came out of the restaurant around 11.

45pm and were heading to their respective cars—a Skoda and a Swift Dzire—when four robbers on two bikes arrived at the spot. Holding them hostage at gunpoint, the four made the businessmen hand over their valuables—watches, wallets, gold chain and mobile phones. After they left, the businessmen dialed 100 and informed police.

While they were heading home, however, they ran into the robbers again near Laxmibai College. One of them, in a Skoda, was spotted by two of the four men as their vehicles neared a traffic signal. “Only a few minutes had passed since the robbery and the criminals thought they were being pursued by the two businessmen.

The two pillion riders fired four shots at the two cars from their respective bikes,” said a senior police officer. While one bullet hit the Dzire`s window, the other punctured the Skoda`s tyres. Then two of them drove off while the two others fired more bullets, this time at the Skoda.
