Two held for stealing car at gunpoint

NOIDA: Two persons were arrested for allegedly stealing a businessman’s car when his driver had gone to the market in Sector 37, on Monday. The accused also allegedly held the driver hostage at gunpoint, robbed and dumped him near Pilakhua area of Ghaziabad.

Police said the robbery took place on Friday night when Ashok Kumar, a resident of Sector 44, had sent his driver Pankaj to buy groceries from Sector 37 market in his Volkswagen Vento.

Pankaj had claimed that some men abducted him at gunpoint and dumped him near Pilakhua area of Ghaziabad, fleeing in his owner’s car.

A senior police officer said a team was formed to investigate the case and police posts across the city were informed. They received a tip-off from Bulandshahr, and the accused, Mustakeem and Shahnawaz, were arrested from Kakore area of Bulandshahr on Monday. Both the accused are believed to be in their early 20s.

Police said the accused had taken the car to Bulandshahr after the theft and were trying to break a window pane, when a guard nearby heard the noise and alerted the police. The stolen car has been recovered, the cops said.Stolen credit and debit cards, a pistol with live cartridges have also been recovered from the possession of the accused.
