GIMS AI Startup Townhall Brings Together AIIMS, IIT Kanpur and Global Health Leaders

GREATER NOIDA News (07/01/2026): The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, through its Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI GIMS), on Tuesday successfully concluded the AI Startup Townhall and AI MedTech Doctors–Startups Roundtable, marking the on-ground culmination of India’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Clinic in a government hospital.

The Townhall followed the successful national online inauguration of the AI Clinic and brought together leading national and international institutions, including AIIMS Delhi, AIIMS Deoghar, IIT Kanpur (MedTech & AI Centre of Excellence), NASSCOM, NHS London (UK) and healthcare innovation experts from the United States. Senior government officials, clinicians, AI researchers, policymakers and MedTech startups participated in the event with a shared objective of accelerating real-world clinical deployment of AI solutions in public healthcare.

Distinguished Leadership and Dignitaries

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sujata Chaudhary, Additional Director General of Health Services (Addl. DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, who formally launched the AI MedTech Doctors–Startups Roundtable as part of the physical rollout of the AI Clinic at GIMS.

Prof. (Dr.) Nitin M. Gangane, Director and CEO, AIIMS Deoghar, attended as the Guest of Honour, while Dr. Abhishek Shankar, senior oncologist from AIIMS Delhi, delivered the keynote address as Special Guest. The event was led institutionally by Brigadier (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Director, GIMS, Greater Noida.

Joining virtually, Dr. Sarvesh Sonkar, Head, MedTech & AI Centre of Excellence, IIT Kanpur, highlighted the critical role of hospital-based validation, clinician feedback and translational pathways in scaling AI and MedTech innovations from concept to bedside.

National and International Participation

The Townhall also witnessed strong international participation. Dr. Nandini Tandon (USA), Co-Founder and Board Member, IndUS SETU Global Foundation, shared insights on global best practices in AI-driven healthcare, cross-border collaboration and effective integration of startups with hospital systems.

Experts from NHS London (UK), the NASSCOM Centre of Excellence, the Patient Safety Secretariat, Government of India, and the Export Promotion Council for Medical Devices (Department of Pharmaceuticals) actively contributed to discussions, alongside clinicians and mentors from leading medical and academic institutions.

Key Outcomes of the Townhall

Designed as a hospital-integrated innovation platform, the AI Startup Townhall enabled startups to directly engage with doctors within a government hospital ecosystem. Key outcomes of the deliberations included:

* Identification of high-impact AI use cases in cancer, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and trauma care

* Direct clinical feedback and structured validation pathways for startups

* Discussions on deployment strategies, workflow integration and policy alignment

* Strengthening sustainable doctor–startup collaboration models for scalable public healthcare adoption

Shortlisted startups presented their AI and MedTech solutions and received detailed_toggle feedback from clinicians, policymakers and ecosystem mentors, significantly accelerating their transition from innovation to real-world patient impact.

Leadership Perspectives

Speaking after the conclusion of the Townhall, Dr. Rahul Singh, CEO, CMI GIMS, said the initiative demonstrated how government hospitals can become drivers of healthcare innovation. He said that, By embedding startups in real clinical environments, we are ensuring that AI solutions are practical, scalable and focused on early detection, accessibility and improved patient outcomes.

Brigadier (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Gupta, Director, GIMS, noted that the initiative reflected the progressive vision of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. He stated that, A public medical institution like GIMS is now leading national efforts in AI and MedTech innovation. Such platforms ensure technology directly addresses clinical realities while strengthening patient safety and quality of care.

Dr. Sujata Chaudhary, Addl. DGHS, appreciated the initiative and underlined the importance of government hospitals taking the lead in responsible and evidence-based adoption of AI, particularly for early diagnosis and equitable access to quality healthcare.

With its successful conclusion, the GIMS AI Startup Townhall has positioned Greater Noida as a key hub for AI-led public healthcare innovation, setting a national benchmark for hospital-driven collaboration between clinicians, policymakers and startups.
