New Delhi (India), 9th June 2023: With Covid induced precautions being a thing of past now, major companies and offices are modifying their work from home policies and urging employees to come back to office.

Global tech giant, Google has also modified its hybrid work policy and is pushing employees who do not work from the office on a frequent basis.

Google stated in memos that were obtained by The Verge and CNBC that it will begin tracking workplace badges to determine how frequently employees come into the office.

The revised policy calls for confronting employees who fail to meet in-office standards and including office attendance into employee performance appraisals.

Most employees are expected to be in the office three days a week, and teams will begin sending reminders to employees who are consistently absent.

In the memo acquired by CNBC Google’s chief people officer Fiona Cicconi wrote in an email to employees, “Many of the products we unveiled at I/O and Google Marketing Live last month were conceived, developed and built by teams working side by side.”

She also wrote, “There’s just no substitute for coming together in person…(in)magical hallway conversations.”

Employees who have previously been granted remote worker status but live near a Google office will be urged to adopt a hybrid work schedule. Some workers’ remote status will also be reviewed if Google deems that there have been “material changes in business need, role, team, structure, or location.”
