I.T.S Group of Dental Institutions has the rare distinction to be one of the few
colleges to have an exchange program with International Universities of repute. A
delegation of 4 Post graduate students and 1 senior faculty visited the Tufts
University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM), Boston, Massachusetts (USA).
This International exchange program was from 15 th – 30 th July, 2016. The
delegation team was led by Dr. Sachit Anand Arora ( Prof. & Head, Dept. of
Periodontics, I.T.S Dental College, Gr. Noida), Dr. Uday Pratap Singh ( PG
student, Dept of Oral Medicine & Radiology), Dr. Ankur Gupta(PG student,
Dept. of Orthodontics), Dr. Vaibhav Mukund (PG student , Dept. of Oral Surgery ,
I.T.S Dental College, Muradnagar), Dr. Megha Nagpal (PG student, Dept. of
Conservative & Endodontics, I.T.S Dental College, Muradnagar)
The delegation visited and observed the clinical work and academic activities in
various departments at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. They also
visited the School Health Program Centers in the public schools of the city of
Boston. It was an enriching experience which opened new vistas for the visiting
team of students and faculty. They also observed and visited the research facilities,
the Dental Laboratories and the State- Of- The -Art CAD/CAM laboratory.
The visiting delegation had a hands-on experience of digital intraoral tracing with
computer assisted mechanics. With the help of this technique it is possible to
record all the clinical data for complete dentures in single appointment. It provides
for a more cost-effective set of appropriately accurate complete dentures. A
repository of digital data remains available that allows for more rapid fabrication
of a spare denture, a replacement denture, or even a radiographic or surgical
template that aids in the planning and placement of dental implants in the future.
Overall it was an experience of contemporary learning of methodologies of clinical
skills, academic presentation and digital assistance of the highest order. The
student exchange offered broad based benefits and outcomes for students keen to
embark on an international future. This excellent learning opportunity left the
students with a better understanding of persons from diverse ethnic backgrounds
and made them feel as “citizens of the world.” It also increased the awareness and
adoption of alternative, multi-faceted approach to learning and also enhanced
interest in global issues as well as a broader general knowledge.
A letter of Intent pertaining to Global Exchange Services between I.T.S – the
Education Group & Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) has
been received. This is a 5 week program wherein students from I.T.S Dental
College and TUFTS University would have an exchange and work in outreach
programs & community centers and school health programs. They have also
invited the faculty for a symposium/ conference in the field of dental sleep
medicine, Research methodology, periodontal & implant therapy
Dr Puneet Ahuja, Principal I.T.S Dental College, Greater Noida extended his
wishes to the delegates. He asked the team members that whatever knowledge they
had gained through this exchange program should be shared with other students
and faculty which will help in providing enhanced treatment facility to the patients
coming to the college.
Director P.G Studies, Dr Anmol S Kalha told that keeping in mind the interest and
benefits of the patients, institution always encourages the enrolled students to learn
and acquire newer knowledge about international standards of treatment so that the
patients are given improved treatment services.
This is another feather in the cap of I.T.S Dental Colleges and the constant
endeavor of I.T.S – The Education Group is to motivate and support the faculty
and students to enrich their knowledge and skills in dentistry. This will immensely
benefit the patients of Delhi – NCR as these skills and learning gets directly
transferred to the treatment procedures in the dental colleges.
