Despite the decks being cleared by the Punjab and Haryana High Court for the early completion of the Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), it is likely to become operational only by January 2017.

The road, also known as Dwarka expressway, has been embroiled in legalities after land owners opposed the acquisition of their property by Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) since 2008.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court had recently set aside a bunch of petitions opposing the acquisition and this had led to renewed optimism among the builders. But the authorities believe that it would still take another two years for the road to become functional.

Gurgaon HUDA administrator Anita Yadav said a major rail overbridge (ROB), being constructed near Sector 99 and 37D on this road, will take another 18 months to be completed.

“The construction began in November 2014 and it will still take 18 more months to complete this bridge,” Yadav said.

The agency has also initiated the process of taking over houses and land of those who had filed a case in the court.

The petitioners in New Palam Vihar, who accepted the cour t- mediated settlement, will be given plots in Sector 37C and 110A.
