Ten News Spoke with Professor I V Trivedi, Ex-Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia University about politicization of campuses as well as other education related issues. He has completed his two terms as a vice-chancellor and is very concerned about the status of higher education in India. He also think government is not giving due priority to the sector and the situation must be improved.

Here are the excerpts of the conversation:

TN: What are your views on rampant politicization of Universities all around India?

Prof I.V : Universities must be given complete autonomy. This is happening at a very slow rate. Also change of Government impacts the educational institutes as well. This practice must be stopped.

TN: What do you have to say about allegations of saffronization of education by the incumbent government?

Prof I.V : Educational campuses must remain free from politics. From what I have seen there has been no such thing as saffronization of education. I am pretty sure it’s not happening in Rajasthan. If it is happening elsewhere, it must be stopped.

TN: Are private educational institutes worsening the education level in India?

Prof I.V: It is totally true. We have a lot of fake universities as well as universities that have not proper accreditation. They just cheat students and such practices should be stopped.
