To Highlight the quality of their products some of the Advertisers show actions which hurt the sentiments of the people and bring bad name to the Institutions besides the country.

Those need to be stopped forthwith.

Brig. K.G. Behl (Retd.),

President, All India Consumers Council, Uttarakhand,

While highlighting  the quality of  products, some advertisements on TV/Media belittle  the  culture and  traditions of the  country and hurt the sentiments of the people and need to be stopped forthwith.  It appears that the advertisements released for screening on TV / Media are not being properly scrutinized from all angles . Those are probably being scrutinized from commercial angle without realizing that they may belittle our culture or lower the prestige of the people involved in projecting that.

In one of the Advertisement for a particular paint (Nerolac), a postman is shown to behave differently by just throwing the letter at a highly qualified practicing doctor since his house is not painted with that particular brand. After he gets his house painted with that paint the postman comes with his team of postmen and they all give him salami (Salute). How can a Govt. employee, and above all a postman, behave in that manner. It reflects badly on the system being followed in the country especially postal Department and indirectly is  an insult  to the Nation.

There are a number of advertisements screened which show that after the use of a particular item  as shown in the Adv.  one gets totally transformed/ changed  or gets so much of energy that it does wonders. It generally shown in Ads. with Paan Masaalas, washing powders, Cooking Masaalas, oils, soaps etc or even face powders or creams which under the name of some herbs, do wonders.  All those items should be got checked from ISI  or other such recognized agencies before those are released for screening on media.  Since all such products are being exported to other countries it brings down the name of our  country  where it is produced.

Even  the Govindas, who are a part of our cultural and to an extent a religious activity where teams join hands to raise one of their members up to break dahi handi during Janmasthmi, have not been spared and are shown moving together as a team from one place to another, fixed together with fevicol, which is not only ridiculous but shameful.  It reflects badly on our traditions and  culture.

Ministry for food and agriculture which deals with consumer affairs is requested to look into this aspect with the ministry of information and broadcasting to ensure that such advertisements are not  allowed to be screened on TV.
