HOUSING THE MASSIVE URBAN POPULATION

Galgotias Ad

In the first decade of the last century, Mysuru was a very small town with a population of hardly a few thousands. The ruler of the State was Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, a young man who had ascended the throne after the demise of his father Chamaraja Wadiyar. Educated and well-tutored in the Palace by his benevolent mother and well- wishers, he thought of creating a Development Authority for the City of Mysuru so that the town would not develop in a haphazard manner. Thus came into being, the City Improvement Trust Board (CITB) of Mysuru in 1904 or so. This task was entrusted mainly to survey the large swathes of land around the Palace and make a place for an orderly Development Trust.
