IMA CARRIES THE DAY | SAYS NO TO NMC BILL
New Delhi : The Government of India had piloted a new National Medical Commission Bill in Lok Sabha to replace Medical Council of India power of Regulation of Medical Education and Medical Practice are vested in Medical council of India. IMA had pointed out that if the new Bill was passed in its present form the cost of medical education and health care would rise astronomically. IMA subsequently called for a nation-wide strike. Doctors across the country withdrew their services for twelve hours on Tuesday. Today in the Parliament the NMC bill has been referred to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Health. IMA thanks the Parliament which, on the best democratic traditions has allowed further discussions and deliberations on the Bill. IMA also thanks all the political parties and the members of Parliament who had rallied behind this just cause across the party lines. IMA had taken up the crusade on behalf of the people especially the poor and marginalized. The Bill in its present form, might have blocked future doctors emerging from lower socio economic strata. IMA which was part of our freedom struggle has always been the voice of voiceless. IMA will continue to fight for equitable Health for every citizen. IMA will be a rightful partner along with the Government in nation building. IMA appeals to the Prime Minister to address the concerns espoused by IMA on behalf of the people and the profession. IMA exhorts its members to work with humility and integrity understanding the spirit of the gesture of the Parliament
