In collaboration with JNU, Galgotias University organizes FDP on Research in Social Sciences
The ongoing 7-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) that began on 7th Feb 2022 organized by the School of Liberal Education, Galgotias University in collaboration with Jean Monnet Module, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi finally came to a conclusion today. The Programme was convened on the theme “Research in Social Sciences: Contemporary Trends, Perspectives and Pedagogy” for research scholars and faculty members.
The valediction ceremony of the programme was attended by newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. (Dr) Santishree D. Pandit, the Vice Chancellor of Galgotias University, Prof. (Dr.) Preeti Bajaj alongside other dignitaries including Prof Sheetal Sharma who is Coordinator for Jean Monnet Module, JNU. The FDP was convened by Dr Manasi Sinha, Associate Professor and Programme Chair of Department of Political Science, Galgotias University. The Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Prof Santishree Pandit in her brief speech laid emphasis on the significance of this kind of programme for the future scholars of Social Sciences and congratulated the organizing team for accomplishing the same. Emphasizing the need for social sciences research in contemporary times, she expressed that under her leadership, JNU will encourage more of collaborative projects on higher education, research and innovation. The VC of Galgotias University Dr. Preeti Bajaj welcomed and congratulated Prof. Santishree Pandit for taking charge of VC of JNU. She also praised the organisers and volunteers for successfully conducting the FDP and reiterated the importance of research in social sciences. She expressed the importance of liberal education in technical universities and as such expressed to encourage initiatives towards this direction.
Both the institutional heads have expressed their interests in collaborating with each other at academic level. Dr. Sheetal Sharma, the coordinator for Jean Monnet, JNU spelled out the interest of offering Certificate Course Programme on Advanced European Studies for Undergraduate and Post Graduate Level to initiate an academic collaboration with Galgotias University.
The FDP has been graced with distinguished guests and eminent speakers including Vice Chancellor of Galgotias university Prof. Dr. Preeti Bajaj, Guest of Honour Prof. Santishree D. Pandit, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Bhaswati Sarkar, Chairperson for the Centre for European Studies, JNU, Dr. Sheetal Sharma, Coordinator for Jean Monnet Module, JNU, Prof. Dhruv Raina, Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies, JNU, Dr. Helene Ducros, Council for European Studies, Columbia University, Prof. Savyasachi from Jamia Milia Islamia university, Dr Preeti Raghunath, Lecturer at Monash University, Malaysia, Dr Anurima Chanda from NBU and many more who all have deliberated upon diverse areas pertaining to research in social sciences over the one week programme.
The one-week FDP has attempted to explore the emerging trends in research in social sciences. The FDP made an attempt to offer in-depth understanding about range of methodologies available to social scientists. Each of the eminent and distinguished speakers particularly Prof. Dhruv Raina from JNU, Prof. Savyasachi, Dr. Sheetal Sharma delivered great sessions. Other speakers also provided a unique perspective to better understand this dynamic aspect of reality and how to contribute towards creation of knowledge. Over the last one week, the FDP has dealt with diverse areas such as methodologies in social sciences; interfacing theory and method in research; the art of preparing ‘Research Proposal’ and learning effective blueprinting in academic writing; Feminist Epistemology in research; Critical Policy Ethnography; Research Methodology in International Relations; managing qualitative data through Mendeley; practical knowledge of SPSS and R in social science research and many more.
