India Water Week begins in Gr Noida, President Murmu outlines need for saving water for future-secure nation

Greater Noida (01/11/2022): President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday inaugurated the 7th India Water Week at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida. On arrival, the President was received by Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

To mark the start of the event, the dignitaries present at the 7th IndiaWaterWeek inaugural function participated in the ‘Jal Bharo’ ceremony that symbolizes the immense importance of water conservation.

During her inaugural address President Murmu, praised the initiative of Jal Shakti Ministry in safeguarding precious water.

 

Mentioning water as a vital resource for life, she discussed the relevance of saving water for a future-secure Nation.

“It will be a huge challenge to make drinking water available for India’s large population in the coming years, so it is important that everyone tries and work in this direction,” she said.

CM Yogi thanked PM Modi for the different projects that were implemented in the country in the last few years which have provided drinking water to many households.

 

He reverberated the noble message of ‘Jal Hai To Jeewan Hai.’ He mentioned that the State of UP has an adequate water supply of ground and surface water.

“I come from Uttar Pradesh where population is the highest, it is because people find enough availability of surface water in the state,” said CM Yogi.

“The rivers flowing from the Himalayas bring a lot of silt, no government has tried to channelise those rivers. Uttar Pradesh government has revived more than 60 of the small rivers that dried up,” the chief minister revealed.

Addressing the gathering, Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat stated that the nation needs to embrace innovative, holistic approach and new technologies to move forward in the field of water sustainability. The 5-p principle need to be emphasized in this pathbreaking journey.

 

“We need to come together to address the problems, related to water. All stakeholders must work collaboratively to ensure water security and sustainable development for all,” said Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

He also declared the vision of ensuring 100% water availability across the country by 2024. He urged the citizens to join the movement and escalate Jal Shakti for a water-secure India

Earlier in the day, President Murmu inaugurated the India Water Week’s 7th edition, in presence of UP Governor Anandi Ben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

The theme the of 7th India Water Week is “Water Security for Sustainable Development and Equity”. The five-day-long events will bring together experts, planners stakeholders from across the globe.

The event will address the issues of sustainability of water resources development and management in the line with sustainable development goals.
