Indian Institute of Packaging organized Valedictory Function of “INDPACK 2014” in New Delhi
The Valedictory function of the 16th edition of National Packaging Exhibition & Conference “INDPACK 2014” was held on today – 18th January, 2014 at Hall No. 6, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi at 11.00am. The Chief Guest for the valedictory function was Dr. E.M.S. Natchiappan, Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

The three day exhibition of INDPACK-2014 was organized with a total area of 4500 sq. mtr where about 90 exhibitors from all over India participated. There was a separate pavilion for Small Scale Industries with an area of 6 sq. mtr for each booth. Government organizations like Ministry of Food Processing Industry, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, Spices Board, APEDA also took part.

Congratulating IIP on its effort, Dr. E.M.S. Natchiappan said, “Government of India has also taken a great initiative to introduce the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) scheme and inviting the leading foreign investor to come to India to invest in various sectors. Though, most of the packaging industries are covered under MSME but I am sure that under FDI, the leading foreign investor would be interested in setting up their plant in India for the manufacturing of packaging materials to cater to retail consumption.”

Prof. N.C. Saha, Director, Indian Institute of Packaging added, “Packaging plays a pivotal role in the industrial activity of the country and its exports efforts. Over the last few decades, it is observed that the packaging industry in India has made an exponential growth and progress and it is going ahead with an annual growth rate 13 – 15% despite the global slowdown. In fact, this particular sector is one of the largest and fast growing sectors in the Indian economy. It will play an indispensible role to enhance the safety and visibility of the product by a process of upgrading the technology and machinery”.
