Initiation of Advanced Virology Diagnostic Tests at GIMS, Greater Noida

Greater Noida (19/04/2025): Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Kasna, Greater Noida is advancing healthcare through cutting-edge diagnostics. Viral research and diagnostic facility (VRDL) facility at GIMS has initiated various advanced molecular and serological diagnostic tests for various infectious diseases. These newly introduced tests will enhance the rapid and accurate detection of critical viral infections, aiding in timely diagnosis and treatment.

The following tests are now available: Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2 RT-PCR for different samples including blood, Viral Meningitis/Encephalitis Panel (Real-Time Qualitative PCR) for detecting 11 different viruses in CSF samples ( Epstein-Barr virus, Cytomegalovirus, Human Parechovirus, Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2, Parvovirus B19, Varicella Zoster Virus, Japanese Encephalitis Virus, Zika Virus, Enterovirus, and Adenovirus).  Among ELISA Scrub typhus IgM, Dengue NS1 and Herpes Simplex Virus 1 IgM and Herpes Simplex Virus 2  IgM ELISA are now available.

Recently Cell culture facility under Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory in Department of Health Research was inaugurated in GIMS, Greater Noida by National Centre of Disease Control (NCDC) Director, Dr Ranjan Das in presence of  DHR-ICMR-VRDL Scientist Dr Nitu Vijay and Dr K Madan Gopal , Advisor, National Health Systems resource centre. Cell culture is one of the major tools used in cellular and molecular biology, providing excellent model systems for studying the normal physiology and biochemistry of cells (e.g., metabolic studies, aging), the effects of drugs and toxic compounds on the cells, and mutagenesis and carcinogenesis.

Director Dr.(Brig) Rakesh Gupta told that these tests will significantly improve the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases in the region, reinforcing our commitment to public health and patient care.
