New Delhi, Mar 15 (PTI): In order to further promoter Higher Education and retaining talent in the country, the HRD Ministry is proposing that selected PhD fellows at the IITs will receive Rs 75,000 per month under the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship Program. The good news, however has a conditions apply. In order to avoid mis use of the scheme, the ministry has also proposed that the fellows would have to return the entire amount if they leave the course midway. The proposal was floated yesterday. This however still await the nod from the Cabinet. If passed, the same is sure to attract more and more students to take up these programs in country’s premier engineering colleges.
The proposed fellowship, having the refund clause, will be awarded to those who wish to seek admission in PhD courses directly after their BTech programme. At present, there are 25,000 scholars enrolled in different PhD programmes in the IITs and those opting for doctoral degree directly after completing their masters get Rs 25,000 per month.
