New Delhi, July 16, 2023: Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate responded to an undated video of Jain monk Ramnik Muni Ji Maharaj, wherein he lauds Rahul Gandhi for his remarkable ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, covering a staggering 4,000 km. In the video, the monk describes Rahul Gandhi as a wise man and commends his dedication to the journey.
Ramnik Muni Ji Maharaj expressed how his perception of Rahul Gandhi changed after witnessing his ‘tapasya’ during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, where the Congress leader walked extensively, connecting with people across about a dozen states on a south-north route.
“I used to think he was not serious about the common man and did not understand their pain,” said Ramnik Muni, sharing his previous views on Gandhi. However, he went on to describe a heartwarming incident during the yatra where an old man ran towards Rahul Gandhi and touched his feet with devotion. Gandhi, without hesitation, continued to stand as the man expressed his reverence.
The Congress’s Bharat Jodo Yatra aimed to unite the country, which, according to the party, has been fragmented by economic inequalities and religious polarisation. The padyatra, which commenced from Kanyakumari in September and culminated in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk in January, was seen by Gandhi as a spiritual discipline or ‘tapasya’.
“It generates warmth, makes you look inside yourself, makes you understand the extraordinary resilience of the Indians,” Gandhi explained.
In response to the monk’s statement, Supriya Shrinate tweeted, “Rahul Gandhi has changed – He was always like this – The conspiracy to tarnish his image by spending crores of rupees has now collapsed. After all, who has been able to hide the sun and the truth?”
The Bharat Jodo Yatra remains a significant chapter in Rahul Gandhi’s political journey, reflecting his commitment to connect with the people and bridge societal divides.
