JEE MAINS to be replaced? Centre mulls one Engineering Exam aka NEET

The Human Resource Development Ministry (HRD) is planning to conduct only one  engineering exam for the engineering aspirants. The Supreme Court had passed an verdict that there will be only one medical entrance exam ie NEET for the medical aspirants. As per a report there have been several meetings under the HRD minister Prakash Javadekar’s for the single entrance exam across India. The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) conducts the examination. Apparently,  the single engineering entrance exam will take place from the year 2018.

The main aim of this decision to conduct a single engineering entrance exam is to curb allegations of irregularities and bring transparency in admission process. There have also been several complaints in the past and the HRD ministry is keen to make system as transparent as possible,” a senior official added. The scores of the common test may be used for the single entrance test by various government and private engineering colleges, sources said. The JEE Main Exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

From the year 2017, NEET will be the only medical entrance exam for the medical colleges  across India. However, some institutes like AIIMS will continue with their own entrance exam and the NEET application form will be filled at AIPMT official website. This year the aspirants will be able to choose their languages in which they will be appearing. The eight languages for the NEET UG 2017 include Hindi, English, Gujarati, Marathi, Bengali, Assamese, Telugu and Tamil.

In order to be eligible for the NEET exam 2017,  the candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Bi0-technology at the qualifying examination. In case the candidates belong to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes, the marks obtained in Physics,Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken together in qualifying examination be 40% instead of
50% for General candidates.
