The MHRD recently given Institute of Eminence tag to yet-to-be-establish Jio Institute of Relience Foundation including five other institutes of the country.

A decision kicked up a controversy across the country and MHRD minister Prakash Javadekar drawing huge criticism for it.

However, the MHRD has said that the move to grant this tag to the proposed Jio Institute was in accordance with the rules. Moreover, Rs 1000 crore has been only given to public institutions not private one’s like Jio institute.

A massive commitment of Rs 9500 crore towards capital expenditure has been made in the proposal given and 800 acres of land has been acquired near Navi Mumbai for the institute.

Speaking to Ten News, NSUI, National President Firoz Khan said, “The tag of Institute of Eminence given just because of the influence of the Reliance owner Mukesh Ambani and his friendship with Prime Minister Modi.”

“In my opinion, this is a bad joke. How can MHRD give the institute eminence tag which does not excist? Even they have given Rs 1000 crore to them. Neither they have any building nor any student. We are protesting agaist this move and demand removal of this tag.”
