New Delhi (India), April 11, 2023: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for visiting a church in Delhi on Easter and suggested that it might be an “atonement” for the past deeds of the Sangh Parivar. PM Modi visited the Sacred Heart Church in Delhi’s Connaught Place on Easter Sunday.

Speaking at a CPIM program in Angamaly, Vijayan said, “If it can atone for everything that’s happened so far, it’s a good thing.” Will it be? Will the tiger take a different stance after knowing that taste? “Will it travel any other way?” He also noted that BJP leaders had visited churches in Kerala and added that there was no harm in taking a different position.

Vijayan went on to criticize the BJP for not taking a strong position against Christian hunting outside of Kerala. He warned that if the BJP attempted to create communal conflict in Kerala, the government would take a firm stand against it.

The CM’s remarks come amid rising tensions between the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) in the run-up to the state assembly elections. Kerala will go to the polls on April 6th, and the results will be announced on May 2nd.
