Delhi, August 22nd, 2022: With an aim to boost toy manufacturing in India, EPCH is all set to organize the first edition of Khilona-2022, a B2B fair, reflecting India’s commitment to regaining its lost glory in toy manufacturing.

The invention of toys in India took place during the Indus Valley Civilization, approximately 8,000 years ago. The original toys comprised whistle-shaped parrots, toy monkeys with long hands to slide down a rope or stick, and miniature farm carts.

However, today the advent of progressive technology and mechanisms has stimulated companies to manufacture toys that are factory-made, plastic-based, are primarily digital or electronic like video games, and are motile.

Above all, most of the toys found in the market nowadays are imported from countries like China, Australia, America, etc.

Manufacturing and promoting more indigenous or ‘Made in India’ toys for children is the need of the hour.

In a major boost to the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission led by PM Modi, in the domestic toy manufacturing industry, the imports of toys is down by 70 percent in the last three years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day speech earlier this month on August 15th, cited India’s toy industry when he called for reducing imports and promoting an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).

“Even five to seven-year-old children say that they do not want to play with foreign-made toys. I salute them. This shows the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat within them,” Modi said.

The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) has approved 19 toy clusters across the country for developing the sector.

Khilona 2022, scheduled to be held at the India Expo Center & Mart in Greater Noida, from August 26th to 28th helps to further propagate the ‘Make in India’ story in the domestic toy manufacturing sector.

Showcasing a wide range of 20+ toy product categories, with over 500 exhibitors, Khilona is the first show of its kind.

The exhibitors include Indian businesses engaged in creating happy childhoods and educating children through play.
