Lok Sabha Elections 2019: CPI fields Kanhaiya Kumar against Union Minister Giriraj Singh

New Delhi: On Sunday, Communist Party of India (CPI) announced the candidature of former JNU Student Union President, Kanhaiya Kumar from Begusarai seat.

Kanhaiya will contest against the sitting Union Minister Giriraj Singh.

As Kanhaiya Kumar and Giriraj Singh both belongs to the same caste, Begusarai seat will be tough fight.

“We have already announced the name of Kanhaiya Kumar as our nominee from Begusarai. Today, the party’s central secretariat gave its nod and formally announced Kumar’s candidature from Begusarai. We have no doubt that he will become an MP,” CPI national secretary K Narayana quoted as saying in a media report.



“We will support the candidates of the Grand Alliance in order to ensure the defeat of the NDA in the state on seats where the Left will not field its nominees,” party state secretary Satya Narayan Singh said.

“Kanhaiya Kumar has become the symbol of fight against the Narendra Modi government in the past three years… We will ensure his victory,” he asserted.

Since, RJD partner of grand alliance, Begusarai is the seat of RJD, till yet the party has not announced its candidate on this seat.

If RJD announces a candidate from Begusarai then it will be a triangular fight between BJP, CPI and RJD.

On Fridays, the Grand-Alliance has announced its seat sharing mathematics, out of 40 LS seats in Bihar, RJD will contest on 20 seats while the Congress will field its candidates only on nine seats.

Apart from that, the grand alliance has announced its candidates for five seats including 3 candidates from Congress and 2 from RJD.

On the other hand, BJP and JDU were contesting on 17 seats each while LJP is contesting on 6 seats.
