LT. GOVERNOR SHOULD PROVIDE DRINKING WATER TO THE PEOPLE OF DELHI-DR. HARSH VARDHAN

New Delhi, May 13th. BJP Delhi Pradesh President has said that if the Summer Action Plan of the Government was framed taking into consideration the needs of the people of Delhi then why there is hue and cry for water in Delhi? He has demanded the Lt. Governor that he should immediately make arrangements for meeting the basic requirement like supplying drinking water to the people of Delhi.

He said that yesterday thousands of people blocked the traffic for the whole day in South and West Delhi. The people of Ambedkar Nagar, Deoli, Khanpur, Sangam Vihar, Raju Park, Jawahar Park, Najafgarh, Dharampura, Greater Kailash, Palam, Dwarka, Samaipur Badali and the people of South and West Delhi are facing sever scarcity of water during these summer days. When the Congress Party was in power, it could have persuaded the Central Government to pressurize Haryana Government to release 80 mgd of water for Nangloi, Baghirathi plants etc. It could have solved permanently the problem of water scarcity in South and West Delhi.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan said that during the summer season, Delhi needs 1200 mgd of water every day. The maximum treatment capacity of the DJB is 835 mgd of water per day but the water treatment plants are able to treat only 600 mgd of water per day. Out of this, 44 percent water is taken away by the water mafia in the name of leakage. Government officers and employees are involved in this fraud. Water worth crores of rupees is stolen every year. The water mafia benefits and the poor people crave for drops of water. Although, the Government frames Summer Action Plan every year and the Government had assured that there will be no scarcity of water during the summer season. If the Summer Action Plan was framed in view of the ground realities then why thousands of people were compelled to block the traffic in scorching sun?

He further said that on the one hand people are facing the problem of water scarcity and on the other hand the DJB is installing sub standard meters in the houses of the people. Even the experts have complained about it. They have said that the meters installed in the houses are working in good working condition and these should not be replaced by force. High quality meters should be installed in those houses which do not have water meters. First priority of DJB is to meet the requirement of water of the people of Delhi. The unauthorized colonies, slums, villages are the worst sufferers. In these areas, the DJB supplies water through tankers but in reality this water is sold in the black market and the people run from pillar to post for getting water. BJP has demanded the Lt. Governor that he should issue a white paper on the status of water supply in Delhi including the tankers. No such action has been taken so far.
