Maharashtra Cabinet expansion: Fadnavis gets Home & Finance, Shinde to handle Urban development

Mumbai, August 14th, 2022: Eknath Shinde, the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra expanded his two-member cabinet this week by including 18 more ministers. The much-awaited cabinet expansion took place seven weeks after Shinde assumed office. However, now the portfolio allocations have been done too.

Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis scored the two big ministries of Home and Finance while Shinde kept the Urban Development portfolio with himself.

CM Shinde will also be handling environment, transport, disaster management, information and public relations, relief and rehab, and other ministries.
Fadnavis will also be taking responsibility for law and justice, housing, finance, and energy portfolios.

BJP minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil will be handling the Revenue portfolio.
BJP minister Chandrakant Patil has been allocated the higher and technical education and textile industry portfolio.
Sudhir Mungatiwar will be the Forest and Cultural Affairs minister.
Girish Mahajan has been given the portfolio of Rural Development and Sports and Youth welfare.

The Maharashtra cabinet was expanded on August 9th and the portfolios were distributed on August 14th,2022.

The new government was sworn in on July 30th earlier this year and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari administered the oath of office to 18 MLAs. Nine members were affiliated with CM Shinde while the remaining nine were from BJP.
