New Delhi, August 2, 2023: In a surprising statement, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar praised the late Rajiv Gandhi and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their reputations as “Mr Clean.”

Pawar, who recently joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government after splitting from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), made these remarks during a press conference in Pune on Tuesday. He attended a ceremony where PM Modi received the Lokmanya Tilak National Award.

Pawar mentioned the warm reception Modi received during his visit to Pune, with people lining the roads to welcome him. Despite protests and black flags from rival NCP faction workers, Pawar highlighted the support shown by the public.

Regarding the recent incident in Manipur where two women were paraded naked, Pawar assured that both the Centre and the Manipur government are taking steps to ensure the culprits are punished.

Praising Modi’s work ethic, Pawar stated that the Prime Minister dedicates long hours to his duties and actively participates in events such as celebrating Diwali with army soldiers on the borders.

While acknowledging his past as an opposition party member, Pawar emphasized his decision to join the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance government, focusing on the overall development of Maharashtra. He lauded Modi’s international popularity and the respect India gains on the global stage due to his infrastructure projects.

Comparing Modi’s image to that of late Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, Pawar stated that Modi’s reputation as “Mr Clean” is evident in his governance.

The Deputy Chief Minister’s praise comes as a notable stance, given his political history and recent switch to the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.
