The Delhi Metro has modified the Mandi House rotary to smoothen the traffic flow around the rotary. The Mandi house rotary was taken over by DMRC from NDMC in October 2011 to facilitate the construction work of Mandi House Metro station and related tunneling which is a part of the extension of Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate line of Phase III of the Delhi Metro project.

The earlier rotary had a diameter of 78 metres with varying carriage way of 12 to 16 mtrs around. The rotary was temporarily modified to facilitate the construction work and later on after the construction, the amended rotary was restored in consultation with Delhi Traffic Police, as it has smoothened the flow of traffic around the rotary.

Now, the diameter of the rotary has been widened from 78 metres to 81 metres and it has also been shifted towards the south (towards Copernicus Marg) so that the carriage way of 16.5 metres all around it can be maintained. The shifting of rotary and improving the road alignment has improved the road geometry resulting fast movement of the vehicles.

The inner circle of the rotary has been beautified with landscaping in consultation with the horticulture department of NDMC. The entire area has been divided into four parts with the help of pathways. A variety of plants and trees have been planted to green the area. The plants having mythological relevance like Plumeria Alba and Budha bali (Australian Bottle Plant), flowering trees like Tabebvia Rosea and Spathodea Companulata (Rugtoora) have also been planted.

The rotary will be handed over to NDMC later next month. In earlier phases of construction also, the road geometry around the Delhi Metro’s construction sites were improved by DMRC engineers in consultation with Delhi Traffic Police to smoothen the traffic flow.
