Lucknow: BSP chief Mayawati expelled her Rajya Sabha member Narendra Kashyap on Thursday, a day before she was expected to announce names of BSP candidates for Rajya Sabha. Kashyap has been accused of orchestrating the murder of his daughter-in-law Himanshi on April 6.

BSP’s Ghaziabad district coordinator Prem Chandra Bharti confirmed Kashyap was expelled from the party by Mayawati on Thursday. Bharti refused to comment, while BSP insiders confirmed Kashyap’s expulsion was triggered following the raging controversy over his alleged involvement in killing of his daughter in law. Himanshi’s parents had accused Kashyap’s family of harassing their daughter for dowry.

Himanshi was found dead in her in-laws’ house in Ghaziabad on April 6. Earlier, the incident was projected as a case of suicide. But later an investigation by Agra’s Forensic Science Lab concluded she was murdered. Incidentally, Himanshi’s father, Hiralal Kashyap, another BSP functionary has also been expelled from the party by Mayawati.
