New Delhi (India), 2nd June 2023: Starting in September, Meta Platforms Inc., Facebook’s parent company, is reportedly instituting a new policy requiring staff assigned to an office to work, on-site three days a week. This decision is consistent with an increasing trend in the technology industry to reduce remote work arrangements.

According to Bloomberg, which cited anonymous sources familiar with the situation, the business intends to improve production and efficiency with this approach.

Existing remote workers( people who have been assigned remote work), on the other hand, will be permitted to continue working from their current locations.

A Meta spokesperson underscored the company’s commitment to distributed work, emphasising the concept that people can have an effect both at work and at home.

The spokesperson also noted Meta’s commitment to improving its work model in order to create cooperation, relationships, and a positive work culture.

The spokesperson said, “We remain committed to distributed work and believe that individuals can have a meaningful impact whether working from the office or remotely. We are continuously refining our model to foster collaboration, relationships, and a conducive work culture.”

This choice has been under discussion for some time, with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously remarking in March that an internal analysis found that engineers earlier in their careers perform better when they work in-person with peers for at least three days a week.

Zuckerberg pushed Meta staff to seek out more opportunities for in-person collaboration and interaction in a public post he published.

Meta’s move to reintroduce staff to the office also fits into the company’s ongoing ambitions for 2023 as the “year of efficiency.”

Thousands of employees were also off prior to the decision to return to the office. Meta laid off approximately 21,000 employees in two rounds of layoffs. The first job cuts affected 11,000 employees in late 2022, and the corporation then laid off 10,000 workers earlier this year.
