New Delhi (India), April 19, 2023: Mizoram was declared the happiest state in India by a study conducted by Professor Rajesh K. Pillania of the Management Development Institute in Gurugram.

The report cited Mizoram’s 100% literacy rate, as well as the opportunities for growth provided to students in challenging circumstances, as key factors contributing to the state’s happiness.

The study was based on six parameters, including family relationships, work-related issues, social issues and philanthropy, religion, COVID-19’s effect on happiness, and physical and mental health.

The report highlighted stories of Mizoram’s youth who faced difficulties yet remained optimistic and excelled in their studies. Mizoram’s social structure, which does not discriminate based on caste, encourages early earning for all children, and has a high number of broken families, was also cited as a contributing factor to the happiness of its youth.

Teachers in the state are seen as trusted friends and regularly meet with students and their parents to address any problems they may be facing.

Sister Lalrinmawii Khiangte, a teacher at a private school in Mizoram, stated, “When both genders are taught to earn their living and neither is dependent on the other, why should a couple continue to live together in an unhealthy setting?”

The study concludes that Mizoram’s unique social structure, combined with its commitment to education and youth opportunities, makes it a model for other states to follow.
