Bhopal, 02nd June 2023: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister, Narottam Mishra, initiated an investigation into allegations of high school girls in schools being forced to wear headscarves irrespective of their religion.

The investigation comes after posters were printed by a private school congratulating 18 students for their performance in the board examinations that showed the girls covering their heads. However, the girls’ families refused to file police complaints, even when the government officials approached them, based on the preliminary inquiries initiated on the basis of social media feedback.

NCPCR chairman Priyank Kanoongo was among those who raised the case on Twitter on Tuesday, claiming that the NCPCR had received a complaint that a school in MP’s Damoh district was forcing Hindu and other non-Muslim female students to wear a burka and hijab.
