New Delhi, 02nd June 2023: The Sri Lankan authorities have blamed a Gujarat-based company, Indiana Ophthalmics, of supplying poor-quality eye drops in the Lankan market.

The eye drops manufactured by the company caused eye infections in over 30 people, and the country authorities are now demanding an explanation.

Pharmexcil, a Sri Lankan agency working on behalf of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, sent a show-cause notice to Indiana Ophthalmics as the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation also launched an investigation into the quality concerns of the drugs produced.

The company has denied quality issues in the eye drops supplied and also has assured of conducting an internal investigation into the same. The leading Indian pharmaceuticals export council has also sought an explanation from the Gujarat-based firm.

This marks the fourth such incident in a year when Indian-origin medicines have been declared contaminated by other countries.
