Greater Noida, 2nd December 2014: Noida International University organized an International Seminar on Human Rights: Issues, Challenges and Concern. Ex Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, NHRC Chairman was the chief guest and Lt General Mukesh Sabarwal was the guest of honour of the seminar. Along with them Dr Arvind Kumar Singh Chancellor Noida International Universitywas also present there.

Addressing the gathering, NHRC chairperson and former chief justice of Supreme Court K G Balakrishnan  said that let us develop such consciousness in the society that enables everyone to use their fundamental rights to life, liberty, and security as well as a broad range of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.

Balakrishnan stressed on protection of socio-economic rights of women. Besides, efforts should be made to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate. He further lamented that the commission has received over 1 lakh complaints of human rights violation from across the country in last couple of time. Mr. Krishnan also discussed on topics like- Immoral Trafficking of Women and Children, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace, Constitutional obligations towards Women and Children, Feminist critique of existing institutions for protection of rights of women and children. He appealed to Noida International University to contribute towards protection of human rights.

While addressing the gathering, Chancellor Dr .Arvind Kumar Singh said, “Values-based education is needed to protect the human rights in the society”. He also said that only discussions will not bring desirable changes in the society but we have to actively participate to protect human rights. He also emphasized to simplify the legal language to help the common man to understand the same.
