Okhla Bird Century Redevelopment-Upgradration Inaugurated by Union Ministers!

Today, on 2111 March, 2018, on the occasion of the International Day of Forests, Foundation Stone for Redevelopment and Upgradation of Okhla Bird Sanctuary is being laid by Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Hon’ble Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change In the august presence of Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
2. Okhla Bird Sanctuary located close to New Delhi, is one of the 467 Important Bird Areas (IBA) of the country and home to a large number of resident as well as migratory birds lik’e grey-headed fish eagle, Baikal teal, Baer’s pochard and Sarus crane, etc.. It is home to 32 species of reptiles, 7 specs of amphibians and 186 plant species. Okhla Bird Sanctuary belonging to the State of Uttar Pradesh has an area of 400 ha out of which 120 ha falls within the National Capital Region of Delhi.
3. The Eco-sensitive Zone of Okhla Bird Sanctuary has also been notified for better management of the Protected Area.
4. Okhla Bird Sanctuary is situated on the road connecting Delhi and NOIDA and there is a huge scope to promote Conservation Education and Eco-Tourism In the Sanctuary. Being well-connected with DMRC through Okhla Bird Sanctuary station, many schools in NCR can now participate in Nature camp and Eco club activities.
5. The Redevelopment and Upgradation of Okhla Bird Sanctuary would include:
• Improving the ecology of the water body
• Developing state-of the art Interpretation Center
• International Standard Watch Tower
• Relaid Cycle Track for tourists
• CCTV Network for improved security
• Souvenir Shop
• Parking facility for visitors
• Drinking water facility
• Electric vehicle for mobility
