Outokumpu, a globally leading stainless steel producer  will participate in CORCON 2014, one of the premier exhibition and conference on Corrosion beginning  on November 12 in Mumbai  and will showcase its corrosion–resistant sustainable solutions provided by the group’s speciality stainless steels.

The Oil & Gas industries and related refining, energy, shipping and port operations present extremely corrosive processes and hostile environments that put materials to severe tests. It is of prime importance in these industries to select corrosion-resistant materials that meet those tests to achieve long, maintenance-free service lives of equipment and facilities.

Exhibiting and presenting at CORCON 2014, Outokumpu will take the opportunity to propagate messages about sustainable solutions provided by the Group’s specialty stainless steels. These stainless steels achieve the lowest life cycle cost, optimal productivity and higher profitability. The world-leading stainless steel producer with the broadest product portfolio, Outokumpu supplies materials for sub-sea facilities, oil refining, chemical tankers, energy producers, transporters, infrastructure and automotive and ports, enhancing profits and productivity with competitive cost advantage.

At the Expo, Outokumpu will showcase Group success stories in the service of the Oil & Gas industries, Sugar industry, stainless steel rebars, rods  and  present its high-end grades, and introduce its R&D capabilities to innovate new grades and applications.

“India loses more than USD 40 billion a year – about 4 percent of the size of the total economy – due to corrosion in infrastructure and industry segments. Better corrosion control is needed at war footing to save expensive infrastructure especially in the coastal areas” said Mr Yatinder Pal Singh Suri, India Head, Outokumpu and member Corrosion committee , FICCI

“Corrosion (a naturally occurring phenomenon) can cause damage to everything from automobiles, drinking water systems to pipelines, bridges, factories and public buildings etc. In India it is a menace adversely impacting various industry sectors including utilities, transportation, oil and gas, steel and infrastructure etc. and needs to be tackled in a scientific manner” said Mr Yatinder Pal Singh Suri, India Head, Outokumpu and member Corrosion committee , FICCI

“Better corrosion control is needed through use of proper corrosion free materials. Stainless steel comes first in mind. The demand for corrosion free material is on increase in high-end industries including Oil & Gas, Energy and Shipping, railways and  ports. There is a need to find ways and means to save leakages on maintenance costs due to corrosion and offer right solutions to enhance the life of products, plant, machinery and civil structures by using suitable grades of stainless steel”  said Yatinder Pal Suri, India head, Outokumpu, the Finnish Stainless Steel company .

Use of appropriate grades of stainless steel in critical sections builds sustainable infrastructure. Stainless steel not only builds infrastructure with long, largely maintenance-free service lives, but it also does so with low life cycle cost.
Outokumpu’s other special grades present unique solutions for fighting corrosion in demanding industrial and architectural environments.

“Stainless steel is the fastest growing segment of the metals industry, its applications are diverse and new applications are being constantly being developed. It has become major part in all of our lives, and has truly changed the world. In India demand for stainless steel is on constant increase due to awareness about the product and availability of right grades and sizes. The demand for the corrosion free metal is on increase in high end industries including Oil & Gas, Energy and shipping-related industries, railways, ports, infrastructure and automotive  where corrosion is a serious issue.”said Mr Suri.

From small beginnings little over a hundred years ago, stainless steel has grown to be an integral part of our lives. Utilised primarily for its corrosion resistance, stainless steel is also found in applications where strength, hygiene, human safety and aesthetics are important.
