Greater Noida (24 December 2024): On the eve of Christmas, Ten News Network spoke with Father Andrew of St. Joseph’s Church, Greater Noida. Known for his dedication to service and humanity, Father Andrew shared his journey, insights, and blessings as the world prepare to celebrate the joyous festival of Christmas. Here’s what he had to say.

1. What inspired you to become a Catholic priest?

Father Andrew shared that his family has a history of Catholic faith spanning over 400 years, influenced by missionaries in Maharashtra, particularly in Mumbai’s Vasai region. “The priests who came to India worked tirelessly in education and social work. Their dedication inspired many, including my family,” he said.

Witnessing the selfless service of priests to people of all castes and religions motivated him to pursue a spiritual path. “I wanted to dedicate my life to humanity, just as Lord Jesus worked for peace, harmony, love, and care,” he added.

Father Andrew chose spirituality over worldly pursuits and embraced priesthood over 30 years ago. Reflecting on his 42 years in Uttar Pradesh, including 25 years in educational institutions under the Agra Diocese, he expressed pride in positively impacting countless lives. “Many of my students have gone on to serve in the armed forces, parliament, and other esteemed professions. Leaving my hometown of Mumbai to serve humanity has been deeply fulfilling,” he said.

2. How do you handle the challenges and responsibilities that come with being a priest?

Father Andrew acknowledged the challenges but emphasized the support he has received over the years. “Wherever I was transferred, I always met good people and built strong relationships with social workers, politicians, and authorities,” he shared.

Highlighting his work in education, he noted, “We ensure quality education for all, transcending barriers of caste, creed, and religion. Our goal is to nurture good citizens who can serve the nation with pride and integrity.”

3. What role does the community play in your ministry?

“The community plays a vital role,” said Father Andrew. As a priest, he focuses on the welfare of people beyond the church, extending his efforts to schools, hospitals, and villages.

He elaborated on his work with underprivileged communities, saying, “We educate people about government policies and programs, helping them rise above social constraints. Empowering communities through knowledge and self-reliance is a significant part of our mission.”

4. How do you balance your personal spiritual life with your duties as a priest?

Discipline and prayer are central to this balance, according to Father Andrew. “Our lives revolve around morning and evening prayers, church services, and community welfare. Alongside spiritual commitments, we dedicate time to education and social work, ensuring every day is spent in service of the Lord,” he explained.

5. What do you find most rewarding about your vocation?

For Father Andrew, the most rewarding aspect of his work is the joy and fulfillment of serving humanity. “Becoming a priest has been a blessing. I feel immense satisfaction in uplifting the poor and contributing to society. It’s a divine calling, and I have no regrets,” he said.

6. What message would you like to extend to people of all religions in Greater Noida?

Father Andrew praised Greater Noida as a “well-planned and harmonious city” where diverse communities live in mutual respect. “The unity here reflects the spiritual and cultural richness of our country, India,” he remarked.
