New Delhi (25/05/2023): In a major development to the ongoing Indian Parliament row, a petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding Indan President Droupadi Murmu’s presence at the inaugural ceremony.
This comes as the country’s top opposition parties decided to boycott the inauguration of the newly constructed Indian Parliament, which would be inaugurated by PM Modi this Sunday.
The Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Trinamool Congress, and other parties issued a joint statement on Wednesday, calling PM Modi’s decision to inaugurate the new Parliament an “assault on democracy.” While some parties, notably the Biju Janata Dal, have accepted the invitation, calling it a “momentous occasion” in the “true spirit of democracy.”
The petition filed with India’s highest court is set to be heard tomorrow, right before the ceremony.
