New Delhi, August 12, 2023: In a spirited address to the BJP’s Kshetriya Panchayati Raj Parishad in West Bengal via video conferencing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing rebuke against the Opposition for their handling of the Manipur violence.
He accused them of propagating negativity throughout the nation and highlighted the firm response given by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government during the no-confidence motion in Parliament.
“We defeated the opposition’s no-confidence motion in Parliament and gave a befitting reply to those spreading negativity in the entire nation. The members of the opposition left Parliament mid-way. The truth is that they were scared of voting on the no-confidence motion…” asserted PM Modi.
Modi further expressed his disappointment over the Opposition’s politicking approach, stating, “There was a need for discussion on important bills aimed at the welfare of people, but the Opposition was interested in politicking.”
The Prime Minister also took a swipe at the Trinamool Congress concerning the poll-related violence during the West Bengal panchayat election, underlining the need for a more responsible political atmosphere.
The no-confidence motion, which culminated in a fiery speech by Modi after a three-day debate, was ultimately defeated by a voice vote called by the speaker of the lower house. This victory was highlighted by the Prime Minister’s assertion, “No-confidence motion has always been lucky for us; this one also will ensure we will return with a record-breaking mandate.”
In a pointed remark aimed at the Congress, Modi noted that the tallest leader in the Opposition ranks was conspicuously absent from the list of speakers, acknowledging Amit Shah’s magnanimity in granting speaking time to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
