Delhi, India, February 8, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a statement about sustainability in the Lok Sabha today, where he is expected to reply to the motion of thanks on the president’s address.

He was seen wearing a sky-blue bandhgala jacket, which was made from recycled PET bottles and presented to him by the Indian Oil Corporation during the India Energy Week in Bengaluru on Monday.

The ongoing India Energy Week, from February 6–8, aims to showcase India’s growth as an energy transition powerhouse. The PM launched the “Unbottled” initiative of Indian Oil on Monday, which saw the adoption of uniforms for retail customer attendants and LPG delivery personnel made from recycled polyester (rPET) and cotton. Each set of uniforms supports the recycling of around 28 used PET bottles.

In support of sustainability, the government recently launched the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with an outlay of ₹ 19,700 crore to facilitate the transition to a low carbon intensity economy and reduce dependence on fossil fuel imports.

In the budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman allocated Rs. 35,000 crore to achieve energy transition and net zero objectives and placed green growth among the government’s seven priorities.
