New Delhi, 15th July 2023: M B Patil, Minister of Large and Medium Industries in Karnataka, said on Thursday that the process of turning over land to Apple Inc supplier and Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn for its mobile device manufacturing unit is in the “final stages.”

Patil said, “Foxconn is coming up in about 300 acres. The process relating to handing over land is in the final stages. There were some issues, so I have personally held meetings four times in this regard, as we did not want to lose the project. Foxconn, which manufactures Apple phones, is very prestigious for us.”

The Karnataka government approved Foxconn’s investment request in March through its state high-level clearance committee (SHLCC). The facility will be built on a 300-acre plot of land in the Doddaballapur and Devanahalli taluks’ Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR).

According to the state’s industrial policy, 152 taluks are the most backward, 78 are backward, and nine taluks are developed in terms of industry, according to Patil.

Noting that the MLA stated that basic infrastructure at industrial parks, as well as poor roads leading to such parks in his constituency, he stated that since becoming minister, he has considered a proposal to examine all industrial estates in the state.

He further said that the government was considering giving at least basic utilities there as a one-time gesture, after which they would be given over to associations, resulting in the formation of a separate organisation similar to that of Electronic City in Bengaluru.

He went on to say that monies would be divided 70% to 30%, with 70% going to industrial parks and 30% going to local governments.
