@RahulGandhi Gets Nitish Kumar’s Support For Opposition’s Vice Presidential Candidate

New Delhi, July 12: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi reached out to Bihar Chief Minister after opposition parties announced Gopalkrishna Gandhi as its  vice presidential candidate. It was a matter of just one phone call that Nitish confirmed his support for Gopalkrishna Gandhi’s candidature, the NDTV reported.

Senior Janata Dal United leader Sharad Yadav represented the party in the Opposition’s meeting on the vice presidential election on Tuesday. Eighteen opposition parties had attended the meet in the national capital.

The Congress is not taking any chance in bringing the opposition parties on board for the vice presidential election. Making a dent to the opposition’s unity for the presidential election, the JD(U) decided to back National Democratic Alliance candidate Ram Nath Kovind.

The Opposition has fielded former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar against the former Bihar governor for the July 17 election. The result will be declared on July 20 for the top post.

In order the ease the tension between the two parties, the Gandhi scion has reportedly instructed Congress leaders not to criticise Nitish and warned them of strict action. Trouble has been brewing in the JDU-RJD-Congress Mahagathbandhan over a slew of corruption charges against RJD chief Lalu Prasad and his family members.

Nitish had also called a meeting of the JDU MPs and MLAs on Tuesday to discuss the issue but no decision has been taken yet. The RJD has ruled out to Tejashwi Yadav’s resignation, whose name also figured in the CBI chargesheet.
