Rosatom Helps Bangla School children to Learn More About Peaceful Atom
New Delhi, April 13, 2015 – Russia state nuclear energy corporation- Rosatom with the support of Ministry of Science and Technology has presented popular science book titled “Nuclear Energy: Questions and Answers” to various schools located at Ishwardi area where country’s first nuclear power plant will be built.
“Rosatom” distributed more than one thousand books free of charge among twenty secondary schools at Rooppur, Ishwardi town and Pakshi. Earlier the book was unveiled at Ekushey Book Fair in Dhaka on February 26th 2015.
“Under the Bangladesh- Russia joint communication strategy that we signed with the Ministry of Science and Technology in the beginning of this year, we are committed to inform and educate people about basics of nuclear energy. It is especially important that we demonstrate benefits of nuclear energy to inhabitants of Ishwardi region where first nuclear power station will be build in the future. We aim to educate about basics of nuclear energy, its benefits compared to other types of electricity generation, its safety, eco-friendliness and cost effectiveness”, – said Vlad Bochkov, Vice-President of Rusatom International Network.–“One of our key objectives is to deliver knowledge to younger generation, schoolchildren and students, who will develop atomic energy in the future. I hope this book sparks interest in them and inspires them to become nuclear specialist”.
The book contains answers to 30 frequently asked questions about nuclear power, operation of nuclear power station (NPP), its safety and ecological friendliness for population. It also contains descriptive photographs of NPPs, nuclear fuel and other relevant subjects for better understanding by the readers.
Rosatom plans to organize few more awareness activities at Ishwardi and Pabna during the current year. Besides,a modern information centre on Nuclear energy will be set up shortly at Ishwardi to provide information about nuclear energy as a whole and Rooppur project in Particular. The book is already being given out to visitors of Nuclear Industry Information Center in Dhaka that plays important role in educating population about atomic energy. The Center was opened in 2013 and has attracted more than 17 000 children and adults.
“Rosatom” under an inter-governmental between Russia and Bangladesh is implementing the Bangladesh’s first nuclear power project at Rooppur, Ishwardi. The project will have two Russian VVER reactorseach with minimum 1,000 Mw capacity. Main construction of the project will begin in 2016 and Bangladesh expects 1,000 Mw of electricity from the 1st unit by 2021.
