“Run for Manavta”- first ever Marathon in Greater Noida by Sharda Hospital

“Run for Manavta” an initiative of Manavta Foundation in association with Sharda Hospital on the World Cancer Day witnessed more than 2500 participants, running to create awareness about the killer disease cancer. 17 colleges, 13 schools and 750 doctors across Delhi NCR participated in the run.

 

The 4kms run was the first ever marathon in Greater Noida. Olympic Medalist Vijender Singh flagged off the run. Mrs. Seema Gupta, Chairperson, Sharda University, Dr. Pratibha Gupta, Dean Sharda Hospital, Mr. R S Chauhan, Deputy Inspector General of Police, CRPF and Dr.PL Kariholu, Medical Superintendent, Sharda Hospital were present at the occasion to boost the enthusiasm among the students. Balram, a cancer survivor, treated and cured at Sharda Hospital was also present at the event. This charity run was conducted to raise awareness of Cancer, encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.

Talking about his participation in the event, Mr. Vijender Singh said, “Cancer has taken away people from their close ones. I always wanted to create awareness about this disease so that people get timely treatments done and save themselves.”

 

“I would like to encourage the people who are suffering from Cancer to fight against it. It gives me immense pleasure to see people of all age groups synergizing their efforts in a social cause” he further added.

The first of its kind initiative was also supported by CRPF with an encouraging band performance. A street play was performed by the students to create awareness about the cause. To acknowledge the efforts of the participants, three winners were chosen, namely; Sachin Bhati, Khalsa College Delhi University, First Prize, Amit Bhati, MMHI, Ghaziabad, Second Prize and PR Choudhry, CRPF, Third Prize.

 

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. PK Gupta, Chancellor, Sharda University & Founder Chairman, Sharda Group of Institutions,said: “It’s a privilege that we are able to organize and participate in a social cause raising awareness about fatal disease like Cancer amongst us. The participation of people from all walks of life can be attributed as the key success factor in getting this implemented. It is a perfect example to this city about the initiative and importance of corporate social responsibility”

 

Other famous personalities who supported the cause and initiative by Manavta Foundation include Milkha Singh, Yuvraj Singh, APJ Abdul Kalam, Kiran Bedi, Kapil Dev and Shibani Kashyap.
