Jaipur, 02/07/2023: After his return from Delhi, Rajasthan leader Sachin Pilot met with MLAs and supporters, causing political circles in Jaipur to flutter. Despite his secrecy, his followers appear cheerful.
This comes after TS Singh Deo, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s adversary, was appointed Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister ahead of this year’s assembly elections. According to rumours, the Congress may also try to purchase peace in the western border state by elevating Sachin Pilot, who has been at odds with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, to a more prominent position inside the party.
In a late-night tweet, Sachin Pilot praised Deo, whose insurrection in 2021 nearly brought the Congress administration to its knees before the Gandhis intervened.
The long-rumoured rumour that Pilot, who recently escalated his attack on his party’s colleague and Chief Minister, would have his responsibilities expanded to relieve pressure on Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and attempt some detente before the Rajasthan election has yet to materialise.
For months, Pilot’s solo campaign and continuous criticism of his party government have profoundly embarrassed Congress.
The three Congress-ruled states of Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh will vote together later this year.
