Sasikala Natarajan to stay in a separate cell, requests for home cooked food, mineral water in jail
Chennai, February 15: Amidst high drama on Wednesday, AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala Natarajan left for Bengaluru to surrender after she was convicted in the disproportionate assets case. Reports say that Sasikala will be kept in a separate cell in the Bengaluru prison after she surrenders.
An India Today report said that Sasikala’s cell will have a cot and a television set. The report also says that Sasikala has requested for a helper to get her home-cooked food. Sasikala has asked for home cooked food to be served to her in jail citing health reasons, saying she is a sugar patient.
Reports also say that Sasikala has requested for mineral water and hot water to be made available to her 24×7. She has also asked not to be tied in handcuffs inside her cell.
Sasikala had to surrender before court on Wednesday as the Supreme Court refused to give a breather to her. The court also ordered her to surrender in Bengaluru immediately. “You know the meaning of the word immediately,” Supreme Court judge said to Sasikala’s team. “We do not intend to pass any order on this. We are not going to change anything in the judgement,” the Supreme Court said.
This came after Sasikala sought more time to surrender citing health reasons. Reports say that Sasikala’s lawyer had requested the Bengaluru court to not to issue an arrest warrant against the leader while confirming that the AIADMK General Secretary will surrender by Wednesday evening.
Sasikala was convicted on Tuesday by the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case and was ordered to surrender immediately to serve a four year jail term. The order, however, resulted in the cancellation of her bid to be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Before leaving for Bengaluru on Wednesday, Sasikala visited the memorials of late J Jayalalitha and MGR. On Tuesday, Sasikala had expelled acting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and four other ‘rebel’ MLAs from the AIADMK after appointing loyalist Edappadi Palanisamy as the new Legislature Party Leader of AIADMK.
Meanwhile, an FIR has also been lodged against Sasikala and E Palanisamy for abduction by AIADMK ‘rebel’ MLA SS Saravanan. He said that he was kidnapped and kept hostage with other MLAs at the Golden Bay Resort.
