SC advises parties to resolve Ayodhya’s Babri-Ram Temple dispute outside court
New Delhi, March 21: In an unusual move, the Supreme Court on Tuesday advised the parties involved in the Babri Masjid-Ram Mandir dispute case to settle the matter outside the court. The Chief Justice of India, JS Khehar himself offered to play interlocutor to resolve the 25-year-old case in a peaceful manner.
BJP leader Subramanian Swamy welcomed the decision, saying that the decision should be arrived at by mutual discussion. However, he said that the Muslim side may not agree to this arrangement as they wanted a legal stamp before coming to the negotiation table.
The court has asked Swamy to mention matter on or before March 31.
It is just a suggestion by the apex court and won’t be binding. The CJI went to the extent of volunteering to be a mediator.
In February, the court had agreed to the plea of Subramanian Swamy to intervene in the pending appeals in the Ayodhya Temple suits.
Meanwhile, Syed Qasim Ilyas of the Babri Panel said that the offer was not acceptable and that the matter needs to be decided upon by the judiciary.
